Restoration with God

Josh Wanner40DOC

“Do not fear the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Do not fear him, declares the LORD, for I am with you, to save you and to deliver you from his hand.” – Jeremiah 42:11

Grief has a way of shrinking the world. It narrows our vision, amplifies our fears, and tempts us to believe that the future can only be as broken as the present feels. That is where the people of Judah found themselves in Jeremiah 42 – wounded by loss, uncertain of what comes next, and terrified of making the wrong move.

Into that fear, the Lord speaks a steady, gracious word: “Do not fear the king of Babylon… for I am with you to save you and to deliver you” (Jeremiah 42:11). Notice what God does not promise. He does not remove Babylon. He does not erase the grief. Instead, He promises His presence. “I am with you.” Restoration begins there.

This is how God so often works. He restores not by immediately changing circumstances, but by re-anchoring His people in Himself. Courage is not summoned from within; it is given by the God who stands with His grieving people. The Lord does not scold Judah for their fear. He meets them in it.

For us, restoration looks the same. In Christ, God has stepped fully into our grief, our fear, and our broken history. At the cross, Jesus stands in the deepest valley—and He does not leave us there. His resurrection declares that God’s presence is stronger than loss and His promises are not undone by sorrow.

When grief presses in, God does not call you to escape it. He calls you to trust Him in it. And where He is present, restoration is already underway.

Prayer: Lord God, when fear and grief overwhelm us, remind us that You are with us. Restore our hearts by Your presence, and give us courage to trust Your promises in Christ.
