The Way of Power

Josh Wanner40DOW

To those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ (is) the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

1 Corinthians 1:24-25

Let your mind wander a bit and think of all the examples of what is considered power in the world in which we reside. We think of the U.S. as being powerful above all nations, Superman being the other persona of Clark Kent, favorite powerful sports teams vanquishing their weaker foes.

As a child, we probably fantasized that we someday might be-come mighty in stature and physical build, and influential in our ability to “move mountains” by our knowledge and experiences. And then life’s realities set in and we accepted the fact that we, just like others, were average. Bah humdrum!

Paul the apostle, in this text, helps us think in spiritual ways about what it means to be called by God. We have been called to worship and serve our mighty God and Savior, Jesus, to His glory and honor. Our abilities are gifts from the Lord to serve others – both those who believe and unbelievers as well.

Our identity is not in worldly achievements, but solely in Christ who has redeemed us because He loves us. We are given these opportunities by a loving, all powerful Lord who empowers us to share that Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. He enables us to be His powerful advocates in sharing the good news that faith in Jesus gives to all people He created by His powerful Word eternal life as His forever family.

Prayer

Merciful, gracious Father, thank You for Jesus. Please give me the opportunity and the courage to share Him with the people in my mission field.
