Adam and Eve: No fear

Josh Wanner40DOC

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27

Think about this. If you tried to write down a list of every fear you’ve ever had – every anxiety, every worry, and every apprehension – your list would be endless. As fallen human beings in a fallen world, fear is all around us.

In contrast, if God were to make a list of every fear He has ever had through all eternity, He wouldn’t have a single entry.

Now think about this: You were made in the image of God. The fearless God of the universe made us, His image-bearers, without fear. When Adam and Eve were created, they knew nothing of fear. They had no worries or anxieties because they carried God’s image and walked in close relationship with Him.

Sin, of course, destroyed that perfect peace and introduced fear into the world. That’s why Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born as one of us and faced down the source of fear. He defeated Satan by His death on the cross. Because of Jesus, you now have nothing to fear from God – or from anything else.

The world is still a scary place, but there will come a day when all of creation will be restored. Fear will be cast out, and peace will reign forever and ever.

That list of fears you’ve been working on so hard will become irrelevant. I hope you have a big eraser.

Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Your Son to destroy the power of fear. And thank You that we can look forward to a time when all will be set right and fear will be no more.
