The Great Day

9making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. Ephesians 1:9-10

What a glorious future we have as God’s people! I can’t wait to see Jesus in heaven and to experience all the joys waiting for me there. One of the many things I’m looking forward to is singing God’s praises with the angels and with all the believers in Jesus who have gone before.

I get a small taste of that joy when the whole congregation sings out to a favorite song or hymn at church. Imagine what it will be like when, instead of dozens or hundreds of voices, we get swept up in the song of millions of saints and angels, all praising the Lord together!

Darlene Zschech and Michael W. Smith have recorded a song called “The Great Day” which beautifully expresses the joy we will experience when Jesus returns in glory. Here are the final verses of that song:

“One day Love will wear the crown; one day Love will set us free; Hands up high and faces down; angels teaching us to sing; He will be King, He will be King; He will be the new sunrise; Steal the darkness from our eyes; When we fail to find the words; Holy, Holy we will cry; On the great day”

This song about our future joy is beautiful, but today’s verse from Ephesians 1 tells us we don’t have to wait for the future in order to experience God’s joy. Today is the Great Day!

Paul reminds us in verse 10 that Jesus came in “the fullness of time… to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” Friends, we are joined with the angelic host now!

So don’t wait to sing God’s praises. Sing out today in the knowledge that all of heaven is singing with you! You can experience heaven’s joy when you praise the Lord – now!

Prayer: Jesus, I can’t wait to see you face-to-face. Until that day, fill me with your praises and give me a taste of heaven’s joy, right now. Amen.
