He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

Daniel 2:21

In this verse Daniel is extolling the virtues of God. Nebuchadnezzar had ordered the death of the wise men in Babylon.

Daniel and his Jewish friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, were among those to be killed because none of the wise men knew the King’s dream, nor could they interpret it.

Daniel seeks God’s help in understanding the mystery of the king’s vision. God answered Daniel’s prayer and he rejoices, praising God.

The dictionary defines the word advent as “the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.” So, during this Advent season, we, as Christians, need to cry out for the coming of Jesus to redeem the world.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, the patriarchs, prophets, kings, and even Jesus prayed for your help when faced with adversity. Are we to expect less from you, Lord? Hear our cry during the Christmas season as we petition for the advent of your Son, who sits at your right hand, to redeem the faithful. Amen.
