Yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God..
– Proverbs 2:3-5
When one calls out, cries aloud, and searches for something as much as for a hidden treasure, it must be pretty important. Right? So what are we seeking that is so valuable? Insight and understanding. How does this fit in with gifts given to us by God that are intended to be used for His glory?
If someone who loves you gives you a gift, wouldn’t you want to open it up and see what it is and how you could use it? Well, Someone who loves you HAS given you a gift. It’s up to you to “open it up” and learn how best to use it.
At first, it may seem kind of awkward if you haven’t been in the habit of using it. For example, if your gift is evangelism and you don’t usually talk to people about Jesus, it will feel awkward. But the more you seek insight and understanding, the more natural it will become. If your gift is teaching and you’ve never taught before, give it a try. Maybe you can observe others who teach and learn techniques from them that have proven successful.
Don’t be afraid to use a gift just because it is unfamiliar to you. If God has given you the gift, He will surely give you an avenue for its use.
Prayer:
Lord, give me insight and understanding to best know how to use the gifts you have given me.
