FAMILY ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS

Game Night — Pictionary Telephone

Have you played the game “Telephone” before? One person whispers a word into someone’s ear, who whispers it into someone else’s ear, and so one until inevitable the word at the end of the line is completely different than it was at the beginning. Here’s a fun take on that game for the family to play as we learn about why God has called us to be careful with our words.

Supplies:
  • Lots of small scraps of paper
  • Pencils for everyone playing
Instructions:
  1. Each person is given a scrap of paper for every person they have in a group – (e.g. if 5 people in the group, each person is given 5 scraps of paper).
  2. Have each player write down some type of phrase on the top scrap of paper then pass the entire stack to the person on their left (e.g. “elephants dancing in the street”)
  3. That person will read the phrase, move that scrap to the back of the stack, then draw a picture representing that phrase on the next sheet of paper
  4. They’ll then pass the whole stack to the person on their left, who will then look at the drawing, move that scrap to the back of the stack, and then write a sentence that describes that picture. (No looking at the scraps that were written/drawn on before! Only the top one!)
  5. This process repeats until the stacks make it all the way around the circle.
  6. The players then read out their original phrase and show everyone else what eventually became of that phrase. You’ll probably find that it’s completely different!
  7. Take a photo of some of the funnier phrases/drawings and send them to Hannah!
