But [Moses] said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” – Exodus 4:13

In Exodus 3, we find Moses at the burning bush. When God begins to tell Moses who He, God is, Moses hides his face. And as God begins to tell Moses that he will lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses has one excuse after another. He feels inadequate. But God has a plan and no amount of excuses is going to change that plan. We know the rest – how God used Moses to rescue His people.

Throughout the Bible, many people felt inadequate to complete the tasks that God put before them, and each time God was with them, and even the most seemingly inadequate people relied on God to bring the tasks to completion. Not because of the person, but because of our Almighty God. His plan, His purpose, His power. In Exodus 3:12 God tells Moses, “I will be with you.”

In Joshua 1:9 God says “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God uses inadequate people to show His power. He wants us to rely on Him, not on our own power or knowledge or strength.

I’m pretty sure all of us have felt inadequate more than once in our lives. We’ve all been like Moses with one excuse after another, but God uses us to do His work here on earth to show others just how adequate He is. He sends people into our lives to lead us, pray for us, and encourage us. There have been many times when I felt inadequate to do something I have been asked to do, and God was with me every step of the way.

May we all be strong and courageous knowing that God is with us wherever we go.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You call us to do tasks that we often feel inadequate to accomplish. Be with us, strengthen us, encourage us to look to You. Help us not let excuses get in the way. Thank you for being with us wherever we go.
