Chosen for The Team

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. Ephesians 1: 3-4

Do you recall a time at school or at work where you were selected to be part of a team. Perhaps, you were even asked to be part of a team you didn’t necessarily even know you wanted. You know, those times in gym class or at work where individuals are selected to be leads or captains and told to build their team. They may choose their team members based upon people they know, have a relationship with, or who are known to have a particular talent or skill.

Like me, you may be one of those waiting to be chosen, wondering if you are liked enough or if the work you’ve done will measure up. The anticipation, the anxiety, and the stress can be overwhelming! I’m getting that sinking feeling in my stomach just thinking about it. Am I good enough?

Contrast that understanding and feeling with today’s reading of Ephesians 1:3-4. Think about this – to be part of God’s Team, we don’t need to be anxious, stressed or sick to our stomach because God already chose us! He chose us before He created the world! He loves us, has blessed us with spiritual blessings and chose us to be holy and blameless in His sight. All in advance! We don’t need to worry if or how we can measure up, because we’re already part of The Team. Isn’t that awesome?!?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am so in awe of Your love and blessings that they are hard to comprehend. Although I am sinful and undeserving, thank you for the love you have shown by choosing me, and each of us, in You before the creation of the world. Praise to You. You are an amazing God! Amen.
