Joseph-A call to trust

Josh Wanner40DOC

But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 1:20

Why do you feel like you’re not good enough? What is it that you’re afraid of? Is it judgment? Is it disappointing others? Or do you simply feel inadequate? We often spend all our time focused on ourselves, making lists of the reasons we are unable to do what God has called us to. I can only imagine what Joseph felt when he learned he would be the earthly father of the Messiah. He probably had his share of doubts, wondering why God would choose him. I can imagine him asking, “Why me God? Don’t you know who I am? I am a humble and weak man, unequipped for this task you’ve given me. How do you expect me to lead Mary and raise the Savior of the World?”

When I have felt I’m not enough for God, this quote has helped me: “The Lord doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called.” The beauty of Joseph’s situation is that the pressure was never on him at all. Joseph had nothing to fear because God was in control. He led Joseph to Bethlehem, to Egypt, and to Nazareth. So why do we doubt that God is in control of our lives? Give it to God. Stop focusing on all your weaknesses, all the ways you have fallen short, and all the reasons you aren’t good enough to be used by God. Lay down your pride and hold tight to the truth that the Lord is powerful enough to work through even you. Give Him all of your worries, with the confidence that He is in control

Prayer: Dear Jesus, you are God, you are sovereign, and I trust you. Remind me that it is okay when things feel out of control, because it is not my control things need to be under. I give you all my doubts and insecurities, and ask that you use me for your kingdom.
