Watching God work

Josh Wanner40DOC

And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. – Exodus 14:13

The Israelites were having a stressful day, to say the least. They were delivered out of slavery in Egypt, trying to get as far away from Pharaoh as possible, and they found themselves at the Red Sea. The Egyptians were pursuing them, they were trapped at the Red Sea, and I’m sure they were shouting at Moses “What are we going to do?! How do we escape with them behind us and the sea in front of us? We are doomed!”

Moses looked at them and said “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.” The Israelites must have thought Moses was crazy. Just stand there and be firm? That’s the answer? And yet, we see this same principle in practical ways. If you’re out hiking and run into a brown bear or grizzly bear, you’re supposed to play bravely dead. If a bee is landing on you, it’s better to be calm and still than to run around. When your car slides on ice, it’s better to go with the direction of the car than to slam on the brakes and turn the opposite way.

So many times, we allow our fear to take over and the panic causes even more problems. How blessed are we that we have a God who fights for us. All we have to do is be silent, and trust. God saved us through His Son. Jesus has done the work. We just need to stand firm, be still, and trust that God will deliver us.

Prayer: Thank You, God, for delivering us from our sins, our failures, and our problems. Thank You that we can stand firm and trust in You, and that You fight for us.
