Noah: The promise of God

Josh Wanner40DOC

I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
– Genesis 9:13

What is the meaning of a covenant? The marriage vow is a good example of a covenant, a promise made between a woman, a man and God to live together as long as they shall live.

As believers, we made a covenant, by God’s grace, to remain faithful to our God and Savior Jesus for our lives now and forever. We made this vow before God and the congregation at our confirmation, asking our fellow believers to help us walk in God’s truths and ways.

God made this covenant with Noah and his family after the Flood had destroyed the earth and all other people and living creatures. It was a new beginning God granted to Noah and his family because “Noah did all that the Lord commanded him” (Gen. 7:50). Noah did not live in fear, but trusted in God’s promises.

As we search the scriptures, we find that the world then and now is very evil. Satan, the evil one, wants us to despair and live in fear. Like Noah, we can trust in God’s Word that He will never leave us nor forsake us.

What can we do to remain faithful to the covenant we made with God at our confirmation? A saying goes that there is “no gain without pain.” Some of us keep the “ole bod in shape” by working out. Applying this scripturally, we know the importance of having the routine of reading our Bible daily, praying for others, attending church and Bible classes, and asking God to give us direction for our lives as His ambassadors. That’s work! But the reward God won for us on Calvary, eternal life with him forever and that glorious welcome into heaven, is well worth it. Don’t fear dear ones, God the Holy Spirit is always near.

Prayer: Help me Holy Spirit to lead a life faithfully serving you and others, all to your glory alone.
