Wisdom at Work

Always [be] prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.

– 1 Peter 3:15

Who might ask you to explain your beliefs and the hope you possess? It could be a family member, another Christian or even an unbeliever. Either way, it is a gift that God sent to you to share your hope in Jesus, because God wants all to be saved. As 1 Timothy 2:3-4 says, “God our Savior… desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

We as Christians have a sincere hope in Jesus, but unbelievers have no sincere hope. Sure, they can hope for earthly things like a successful and peaceful life here on this earth, but what comes after that? Christians have the hope of a glorious eternal life with Jesus (see Titus 3:4-7).

Because we believe that Jesus suffered and died for all the sins of all people, we can share that news confidently, but not boastfully, with anyone. We are sharing the gift of Jesus’ wonderous works! The Holy Spirit will do the rest.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, please fill us with Your Holy Spirit and keep us strong in our faith, so that we can be outstanding witnesses of Your love to all the people whom we contact. Provide us with the appropriate words to say when given the opportunity.
