Friends Support

Josh Wanner40DOW

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 18:24

Among the many blessings that God has granted to his children on Earth is the capacity for deep and lasting friendships. At their best, friendships are a reflection of God’s love and caring for us.

We are blessed every day, often without our being aware of it. Friends listen to us, encourage us, share thoughts and laughter and help us in a myriad of ways, both large and small. Some friendships are of short duration, but the friends who give constant support through life’s darkest days are those who become closer than a brother. It is in God’s plan that we should also serve to support our friends in the same manner.

A wonderful example of friends who were closer than brothers was David and Jonathan. David was in mortal danger of being killed by Saul because Saul saw David as a threat (1 Samuel 20). Jonathan protected and supported David even though he risked his own life to do so.

Jesus gives a perfect example of His support of His friends when He journeyed to Mary and Martha’s home at the time of Lazarus’ death. He wept with them, comforted them and supported them in their time of greatest need and sorrow (see John 15:13).

To be supportive of friends is a beautiful expression of God’s love for us. We rest in the knowledge that He gives unfailing support to us every day of our lives.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for the unfailing support You so lovingly grant to us each day. Please open our minds and hearts so that we may reflect Your care and support to others.
