Blessings at Work

Josh Wanner40DOW

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.

Proverbs 3:13-14

Wisdom is mentioned in 17 books of the Bible, with Proverbs containing the most references. Blessings are gifts from God, and wisdom is one such gift.

Wisdom arrives through a combination of experience, time, understanding, and good, solid work. We’re not born wise, and rarely does wisdom visit those who watch instead of build.

Neither silver nor gold brings wisdom. Instead, understanding is the foundation of wisdom. Both are gifts from God through the blessing of vocation.

In working in our vocations, we grasp wisdom. Volunteer work, the work that feeds our family, and work within that family to grow it in faith and love.

Perfect Jesus, equipped with God’s equally perfect wisdom, left heaven to teach us about love. He, through His ministry, bestowed it to others so that we might live. His works teach how His sacrifice saves.

Prayer

Lord God, work penitent hearts within us, sharing Your wisdom with us as we serve You. May we serve You until we are saints in heaven resting from our labors. We trust what You say – that today’s feeble struggles and our reliance on Christ build our strength.
